Turin, the Basilica di Superga

On Turin's hills, at a height of 670m, stands the wonderful Basilica di Superga. The basilica, designed and built in 14 years by the architect Filippo Juvarra who used stones taken from the bottom of the hill, was solemnly consecrated in 1731. The dome is 65m high.

Once upon a time there was this great and fantastic group of people who blogged and photographed … with a click, click here, a snap, snap there, all of them had a week to look upon the sky … day and night, by dusk or dawn, sunrise or sunset … and always there where great and fantastic photos to be seen when SKY WATCH was opened …

I am one of those proud sky watchers and I really enjoy each and every one of the photos you show us. I really think you are a first class sky watcher!

Tom
A very beautiful view...thank you for joining in again with Sky Watch... Enjoy :O)

Great Skywatch Friday! I am so glad that Tom hosts this. I get to see so many new places through the pictures of you guys! Have a great week!

What a lot of stones were carried to top of the hill for that project. It makes me tired to think about it. The sky looks so dark and foreboding. Nice photo.

Anne
Nice shot, even if the sky isen`t blue...

Hope it will be blue for you this weekend.

Kim
Great job with this picture, and thank you for the information.

Louise
I love this. It shows just how big the sky is.

Great example of a layered stormy sky. Your story is wonderful. You mean he had to carry the stones all the way up to the top!! I do like the way you have composed the image.

Kutuharju
Your sky seems higher than the others :)
You include quite a lot in just one picture.

SandyCarlson
Looks so very mysterious, Pietro!

Jane Hards Photography
Very mysterious.

Rose
Looks like troubled skies to me, but an excellent shot.

Louis la Vache
This image reminds "Louis" of how in Paris, Sacré-Couer sits atop Montmartre. The sky certainly heightens the effect of the dome of the basilica. Fine image.

"Louis" thanks you for visiting San Francisco Bay Daily Photo.

A picture taken by a painter.
It's a great, Great picture, Pietro.
It has something of mysticism.
The Duomo seems so little compared to the immensity of the Sky.

Amazing and magic photo, Pietro!

Thanks for your nice comment on my SWF!

MedaM
Beautiful and impressive photo of Basilica followed by short but interesting information on it! The sky is just spectacular with the clouds building up high.

Hallo from North Norway. Last week I saw all Sky Watch Friday photos and they were all great, and I hope to see them all this week too. I love to travel around the world this way.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful sky watch photos and have a great weekend!

Great perspective, but I have to agree its eerie! Happy weekend!

Christy
Wow. This image is so cool. I love the scale it has. The basilica looks so miniscule against those clouds in the sky. Very nicely done. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comment.

Kahshe Cottager
What a magnificent photo Pietro! When I read how large the Basilica was, it made the sky seem even more vast.

Thank you for your visit to my sky watch and your nice comment! Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello from Colorado. cool picture. Thanks for sharing

Michele
Oh this is astonishing. What dramatic skies! I am so taken aback at the this piece of photography as I sat and viewed this for several minutes! It's amazing. I would frame this and be pleased to have this hanging on my wall... it's beautiful! What power it shows the immense sky and the smallness of the basilica. Very nice. One of my favorites of your work.

marvellous how the clouds overpower it.

Hi Pietro!
Wow!! This is an awesome picture. What a sky; It makes the cathedral look so vulnerable... ;)

Pietro, I love the silhouette on the hill! Very well done!

That's excellent - I think you have to be quite brave to feature so much sky and just have the building/scenery/whatever right at the bottom, but this has worked brilliantly!

Shawie
great shot!

Sara at Come Away With Me
